Catherine Kane Obituary

Published by Slattery Funeral Home - Marlborough on Mar. 7, 2017.
Catherine (Misener) Kane, 101, of Marlborough, MA, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Marlborough Hills HealthCare, Marlborough, MA. Born and raised in Southborough and lived her adult life as a Marlborough resident, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary (Ramsey) Misener and the wife of the late John Vincent "Vinnie" Kane, who died in 1978. Known as the "Voice of Marlborough Hospital", Catherine operated the switchboard for over 30 years. A job she truly loved. She never missed the opportunity to travel or dine out and especially enjoyed the many bus trips with her sisters and brother and taking her chances at the slot machines and Bingo! She looked forward to summer vacations at Hampton Beach with her children and grandchildren. She was always willing to go, whenever and wherever. She spent many hours with her son-in–law Ron. His companionship and attentiveness to her many needs provided her with the ability to remain comfortably in her home with her family. She is survived by her son, James V. Kane and his wife Karen of Gettysburg,PA, her daughter, Cathi DeCiero and her husband Ron of Marlborough, her grandchildren, Nicole Majowicz and her husband Rod, Jessica Lyle and her husband Josh, Samantha Kane and Brendan Kane, and her great- grandchildren, Travis and Colin Majowicz and Nash Lyle. She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Bateman of Sterling, Dorothy Santella of Bunnell,FL, Bea Ginga of Southborough, and Josephine Williams of Clinton, and her sister in law, Joan Misener of Southborough, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late John Misener and Mary Dion. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 from 9:00 -10:15 am at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough, MA. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00am at St. Anne Church, 20 Boston Rd., Southborough, MA. Burial will follow at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Beach St., Marlborough, MA. Her family wishes to thank the staff at Marlborough Hills for the care and kindness shown to Catherine while a resident and request that donations be made in her name to Marlborough Hills Health Center, Activity Fund, 121 Northboro Rd., Marlborough, MA 01752

Through her mother, Mary F. Ramsay (1891-1920) daughter of Malcolm & Catherine (Sheehan) Ramsay (1859-1934), Malcolm is my 1st cousin 3X; Malcolm is Catherine's Maternal grandfather, thus my 3 rd cousin 1X. To the entire united families, I can connect you to Malcom's heritage, via Prince Edward Island, Canada back to Scotland. Should anyone be interested in learning their lineage via the RAMSAY CLAN, please contact me direct per: [email protected] for an exchange of of data. For verification of timeline, I was born in 1934, Truro, NS CAN.

I worked with Catherine for many years. No one worked harder or offered a helping hand more quickly. She was the "Voice of Marlborough Hospital." Bless you, Catherine and deepest sympathy to the family.

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope the Kane family will draw comfort from the words found at Psalm 145:18.

An Olde Irish Wish

May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow
May the soft winds freshen your spirit
May the sunshine brighten your heart

KNOWING MRS.CATHERINE KANE AND MR. VINNIE KANE AND THEIR VIVACIOUS DAUGHTER "CATHY KANE" WAS A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE!
I SPENT MANY HOURS IN THEIR HOME GROWING UP AND ALWAYS FELT WELCOME AND MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES WITH THE FAMILY SINCE I WAS 8 YEARS OLD!
MANY FUN MEMORIES ALL THROUGH I.C.SCHOOL AND MARLBORO HIGH SCHOOL ESPECIALLY AT MARLBOBO HOSPITAL, WORKING THERE, STARTING AS A CANDY STRIPER, THROUGH BEING A GIRL SCOUT, TO BEING A WARD CLERK AND ON; IT WAS ALWAYS COMFORTING KNOWING MRS. KANE WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF THAT HOSPITAL AND I COULD GO TO HER IF I WAS NEEDING A FRIEND. SHE ALWAYS HAD A COMFORTING WORD, AND SMILE.

CERTAINLY IT DID NOT STOP THERE, AS GROWING UP IN MARLBORO, MANY RELATIVES AND FRIENDS WERE PATIENTS THERE. IT SOMEHOW WAS ALWAYS COMFORTING JUST KNOWING THAT SHE WAS THERE. WATCHFUL, ATTENTIVE, AND ASSERTIVE, LIKE SHE WAS THE GOVERNOR AND COULD HANDLE ANYTHING, CARRIED ON AND TOOK CARE OF IT! SHE WAS AMAZING! SHE WILL BE MISSED BY MANY, AND MANY MUST HAVE A STORY! LOVE TO YOU CATHY AND NICOLE, AND YOUR FAMILY. LOVE, PEGGY

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
