The family would like to thank the staff at Vista Springs for the loving care they gave "Captain Kate." Catherine was a 1941 graduate of Mercy Central School of Nursing. She served in the Army Nurse Corps during WWII earning the rank of Captain evacuating wounded by air from Prestwick, Scotland then on a train in France bringing wounded from the front lines to general hospitals. Aunt Kate loved her faith, golf and the special family times at Barlow Lake. She was an extraordinary woman and a great role model, showing us the importance of having fun, staying positive and living life to its fullest. Friends and relatives can visit on Sunday, September 14, from 4 to 7 PM followed by a vigil at Cook Funeral Home in Grandville, 4235 Prairie St. SW (west building). Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave. SW. with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Dominican Sisters – Grand Rapids, Mercy Health – Lacks Cancer Center, or Faith Hospice.
