Catherine Marie Loop, lifelong resident of Gaithersburg, MD, passed away peacefully on her 81st birthday, surrounded by the love of her children. Born in Washington, D.C. on May 8, 1944, Catherine lived a life of quiet strength, boundless compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Catherine worked for the US Postal Service before choosing to devote herself fully to raising a family. In later years, she returned to the workforce in both Optometry and Dentistry, where she brought kindness and warmth to all who walked through the doors.
She was one of five born to Esther V. Spalding (Morgan) and Maurice A. Spalding. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Paul, Greg, and Vicki. She is survived by her brother Garland ("Joe"), her son Bryan, her daughter Kimberly, and her five grandsons: Tanner, Brayden, Elias, Wyatt, and Weston, who were the light of her life, in addition to her daughter-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Catherine's greatest joy came from her roles as a mother and grandmother. Her love was unconditional and her presence constant and unwavering. She touched the lives of all who knew her with a gentle heart and giving spirit. Her legacy of love and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 10:30am, May 31st, 2025, in Laytonsville, Maryland, where Catherine will be laid to rest with her parents and siblings. A private family repast will follow the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter.
She will be dearly missed and forever loved.
