Catherine Luken Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Michael J. Grant Funeral Homes, Inc. - Brentwood on Jul. 8, 2025.
Catherine (Cathy) was born in Brooklyn, NY. She grew up in Freeport, NY, and attended Our Holy Redeemer in Freeport. She graduated from Queen of the Rosary Academy in Amityville, NY. After high school, Cathy worked for the Chancery of the Diocese of Rockville Center. Cathy had a very fulfilling life as a mother and caregiver for her mother, father, and others.
In her younger days, Cathy loved to go out dancing with her friends. Later in life, she enjoyed going to Irish pubs. She loved country music, politics, and was a dedicated Yankees fan.
When she was in her early fifties, Cathy was diagnosed with late stage ovarian cancer and was given only a 15% chance of survival. Through prayer, excellent medical care and her determination to live, she overcame this challenge.
Over the years, several women suffering from this disease were referred by her doctors, Clergy, and friends, and she was available to them at all hours of the day or night, giving them hope, faith, and a sounding board for their questions and fears. She helped them greatly on their journey through their illness. She always felt she was spared to be a help to others. Family and friends will tell you she was one of the strongest women they have known.
Cathy's best times were spent with her family and friends. She was devoted to God, her husband, Rich, her daughter Heather and son-in-law Philip, her family and friends.
Cathy was predeceased by her father and mother, Joseph A. Sheridan and Catherine T (McNally) Sheridan and her special sister, Karen Di Carlo.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Luken, daughter, Heather Di Carlo, MD (Philip, MD) and her brother, Joseph (Diane) Sheridan, grand-dog Stella, and her extended family, Jerry Di Carlo, Julia, and her special honorary grandsons, Kyle and Aaron; and special daughter, Robyn who refers to her as Mommy #2.
She is also survived by her step-daughters, Paula Clarity, Stephanie De Joseph, and grandchildren, Remy & Michaela.
She was a communicant of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Brentwood.
She will be missed by all.
