Catherine Pauling

Catherine Pauling, born August 31, 1951 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, journeyed to her heavenly home on October 27, 2025. Known affectionately as "Cassa" by her loved ones, Catherine was a beacon of charisma and creativity, a woman who found joy in every aspect of life. Her radiant smile and infectious laughter filled every room she entered, and she found immense pleasure in simple things - listening to music, dancing, decorating, and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends. Catherine never missed an opportunity to dress up and look cute, her unique style was a testament to her creative spirit.
A woman of strong faith, Catherine was an active member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church. Her life echoed the words from the Book of Proverbs 31:25-26, "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue." Catherine's loving nature was displayed in her dedication to her work as a supervisor in retail, and her previous roles as a daycare schoolteacher and as a store manager at Taco Bell and Walmart. Her love for her family was her greatest achievement, and what mattered the most to her.
Catherine is survived by her daughters, Akiya and Tasha Pauling, her sisters Jannie, Ruby Scott, Fannie Dupree, Rosa Bookhardt, Harriet, Trisha Moore, Lillian, and Geraldine Blanding, her brothers-in-law Franklin Bookhardt and Jerome Moore, her grandsons Laquan Thompson, Khamani Martin, Manny Hilliard, and Dozell Hilliard, and a host of nieces and nephews. Catherine was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Coward, her siblings Helen, Sylvia Nelson, Adam, Nathaniel, and Henry Jr., and her parents Eddie and Louise Pauling.
A viewing for Catherine will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 3:00pm EST at Canaan Institutional Baptist, 31 Concord Street, Norwalk, Connecticut, 06854. The funeral services will follow at the same location at 4:00pm EST. We encourage all who knew and loved Catherine to leave their memories of her and upload photos to her memorial page. Catherine's spirit lives on in the memories we share and the love we hold for her in our hearts.
