Catherine Price

Catherine "Cathie" Harriet Price, 82, of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, surrounded by family and friends at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

Cathie was born on June 2, 1943, while her parents, Douglas and Wanda Price, were en route from their home in Crystal Springs to the hospital in Jackson. Because she was born in the car, it is difficult to say exactly where she entered the world; however, despite that minor technicality, she always proudly claimed Crystal Springs as her hometown.

Cathie was welcomed home by her two older sisters, Betty and Lucie, and was later joined by her brother, Bill. Growing up, she especially cherished summertime adventures with her cousin Diane.

A cheerleader and bright student, Cathie graduated from Crystal Springs High School in 1961. She went on to join her two sisters at the Mississippi State College for Women, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1965.

After beginning her career as a teacher, Cathie discovered her calling as a meeting and convention planner. She relocated to Colorado, earned her master's degree, and founded her own successful firm serving a selective clientele.

Later, she combined her love of teaching with her professional experience by earning a Ph.D. in Tourism from Virginia Tech. Now known as "Dr. Price," she joined the faculty at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, where she prepared students for successful careers in Hospitality Management.

Throughout her life, Cathie always chose to be near family - whether near Betty's family in Washington, D.C., Lucy's family in Denver, her nephew Lance in Chicago, or back home in Mississippi near her favorite brother Bill, his wife, also Betty, and their family. Her nieces (Jenni, Julie) and nephews (John, Brad, Lance, Doug), five great nieces and seven great nephews- along with Amazon shareholders, appreciated her generous, clever, and always perfectly chosen Christmas gifts.

Cathie spent her final years at St. Catherine's Village in Madison, Mississippi, where her wit and warmth drew both new best friends, like Dubar Brown, and lifelong friends, like Pam Biggs.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of St. Catherine's Village for the care, friendship, and joy they shared with Cathie.A memorial service will be held Friday, October 24, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m.The location is Stringer Funeral Home, 26141 Highway 27, Crystal Springs, MS 39059.
