Catherine Ross Obituary

Catherine Ross, affectionately called “Momo”, “Momo Cat “ and “Cat”, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was called to her eternal home on March 4, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on May 13, 1952, in White Castle, Louisiana, Catherine lived a life filled with faith, love, and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Catherine’s personality was a brilliant blend of warmth and strength. A devoted Christian, she loved God and exemplified her faith every day through her actions and the love that she poured into her family and community. She faithfully served as a deaconess and was honored as a Mother of her church, dedicating her life to serving God and others. She embodied the true definition of a good neighbor, never meeting a stranger and opening her home with a loving heart and a delicious cooked meal. Her home was a sanctuary, kept spotless and welcoming to anyone in need. She was a giver at heart, always finding joy in sharing and lending a helping hand.

Her spirit shined through her cherished mottos: “take care of business,” “no loose ends,” and “pay your bills.” These phrases not only reflected her practical approach to life but also her dedication to those she loved. Catherine had a special way of showing affection, often sending generous cash apps to family and friends, ensuring they felt her love and support even when away.

Amidst her many admirable qualities, Catherine was known for her unique sense of style, always dressing with a sparkle and elegance that reflected the light she carried within her. She embraced life’s simple joys with a full and grateful heart—whether savoring snow crabs, settling in to watch her favorite westerns like Gunsmoke, or finding comfort in the gentle stories of Little House on the Prairie. Movies were another source of joy for her, especially those featuring her favorite actors, Denzel Washington and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, whose presence on screen never failed to lift her spirits. Yet among all the films she loved, King Kong held a special and enduring place in her heart. She cherished watching it with her family, captivated by something tender and powerful in the great creature—drawn to his fierce loyalty, the unforgettable fight scenes, and the iconic moments when he beat his chest. In many ways, the movie reflected what she admired most: strength, heart, and a deep, unwavering love. It remained one of her favorites, a small but meaningful piece of the joy she brought into the lives of those who loved her.

Catherine took immense pride in her family, her proudest accomplishments being her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her loving children: Andrea Ross, Monica Ross, Joshua Ross, Sade Jones (Donald Ray), and Jeremiah Smith. Her legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren: Karlisha, Diona, Kyra, Jamarcus, Miracle, Amilyah, Amarie, Aldreama, and Jericho, as well as her great-grandchildren: Kasie, De’Kyri, Mayson, Ryan, Javier, Blessin, Latham, Kymarley, and Kehlani. She also leaves behind her cherished brothers, Sherman Smith and his wife Miriam and Charles Smith and his wife Darlene, along with numerous other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie Leo Ross, and her parents. Her absence leaves a void that will be felt deeply by all who knew her.

A visitation in her honor will be held on March 13, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 9:00 AM at Progressive Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA. Interment will take place at Port Hudson National Cemetery at 11:00 AM.

As we celebrate Catherine Ross’s life, we hold close the memories of her unwavering love, the kindness she extended, and the joy she brought into our lives. Her spirit will continue to inspire us, reminding us to live with purpose, compassion, and an open heart. She will forever be missed and lovingly remembered.
