Catherine Severino Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Louis A DiGiacomo Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 12, 2026.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of CATHERINE M. SEVERINO (nee Montecalvo). Catherine passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026 at the age of 93.

Catherine was the devoted wife of 47 years to the late John A. Severino, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2005. Catherine was the loving mother to John A. Severino, Jr. (Kathleen Kent), Celine M. Severino, Cathleen Shive (Craig), and Stephen D. Severino. She was the beloved grandmother to Caitlin Stricker (Gene), Neil McGarry, Jr. (Julianne), Rachel Sarappo (Joseph), and Ian McTague and cherished Gigi to Jackson, Jocelyn, Chase, Brielle, Nathan, Audrey, and Joseph V.

Catherine was born and raised in the Fairmount Section of Philadelphia. St. Francis Xavier Parish was part of her life from the Sacrament of Baptism through the Sacrament of Marriage.

Catherine was a Licensed Practical Nurse. She began her career at Hahnemann Hospital and went on to work at other hospitals and doctor's offices before ending her professional life at Cardinal Dougherty High School.

One of Catherine's favorite quotes was, "The best day of my life was the day I met your father." Catherine met John on the dance floor, and they continued to dance for many years. They participated and won many local ballroom dance competitions throughout their life together.

As a devoted, loving mother, Catherine was deeply involved in her children's activities at both the grade school and high school levels, as well as at the Lawncrest Recreation Center. She was a dedicated and civic-minded leader who consistently volunteered for leadership roles within the Home and School Associations and successfully led many fundraisers. Summer vacations included trips up and down the east coast visiting many historical locations.

After Catherine retired, she and John began traveling throughout the United States and Europe. They joined the parish 50-Plus Club and the local fitness center where they made many new friends and enjoyed bus trips to casinos and nearby attractions.

Once her grandchildren came along, Catherine attended their sporting and school events. She cherished being part of their grade school and high school years and remained actively involved into their adult lives. She was especially thrilled to serve as a bridesmaid at one of her granddaughter's weddings. Catherine's great-grandchildren were, without question, her pride and joy. She frequently reflected on how blessed she was to have lived long enough to see them, and how deeply she wished John had been there to share in that joy. Gigi spoiled them as often as she could!

Throughout her life, Catherine was a devout Catholic. She instilled her faith in her family and made choices guided by her beliefs. Many family trips incorporated visits to shrines and other holy places. She enjoyed going to Mass and volunteered in the parish whenever she was needed.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 9:15AM until 10:15AM at St. Christopher Church, 13301 Proctor Road, Philadlephia, PA 19116, immediately followed by her funeral mass 10:30AM. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima USA, 674 Mountain View Road E., Asbury, NJ 08802 (www.bluearmyshrine.com)

My deepest sympathy on the passing of your Mother. She was a wonderful woman who loved her family with all of her heart. I babysat for her children for a long time. May she rest in peace.
Sincerely,

It was with a heavy heart when I got the news about Katherine. A woman who definitely was a very family oriented woman. I cleaned for Catherine for many years. While she lived at the Gloria day farms in habur, she was sadly missed when she moved out a few months back, but I will never forget her happy smile to meet me every time I came.
