Catherine E. Sih (nee Hsu)
June 15, 1934 - September 23, 2023
MADISON - Catherine Elizabeth Sih, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 23 at her home in Madison, WI, surrounded by her family who loved her dearly.
Cathy grew up in Taiwan, where she developed a love for music. She moved to the United States to pursue her music education at Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. During that time, she met Charlie Sih, the love of her life. They married in 1959 at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Queens, New York, and moved to Madison, WI, the next year, where they built a beautiful life together with their three children.
She was a longtime member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Parish. Her grace and steadfast Catholic faith guided her daily life and set a treasured example for her loved ones. Her passion for music lasted throughout her life. She taught piano for over 50 years, cherishing her students as members of her extended family. Many kept in touch with her for years.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Charles; children: Shirley (Jeff), Gilbert (Julie), Ron (Katie); five grandchildren; brothers: Dick (Kay) and Eric (Helen); and sister-in-law Alice (Alfred). She was preceded in death by her brothers: Alfred and Bob (Helen).
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Aisha, Christine, Cheryl, Denean, Fatima, Lou, Nassira, Patricia, Secious, and Yasmin for their loving care and companionship in her final years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison. Family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. A luncheon in the parish hall will follow. Private burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
