Tezak's Home to Celebrate Life - JolietCatherine Marie (Sraj) Swanson, 64, a lifelong resident of Joliet, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on August 21, 2025. Born May 24, 1961, to Anthony and Sophie Sraj, she graduated from St. Francis Academy in 1979.
Catherine married the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Swanson III. She was a devoted mother to Jason Douglas Sraj, Charles Swanson IV, and Samanthajo Swanson, and proud mother-in-law to Anthony Alonzo. Her greatest joy was being “Mimi” to her grandchildren: CT, Camden, Jason, Aiden, Landon, and Izabella, whom she loved watching grow, especially in their sports. She was thrilled to finally welcome a granddaughter, Izabella.
Throughout her career, Catherine worked at the Empress Casino (1995–2002), the Exelon Nuclear Site (2008–2010), and later as a real estate agent, where she formed lasting friendships and connections.
Outside of work, she found happiness in her yard, cheering on her Chicago sports teams, cooking for others, and spending time at Millgrove Campground, where she made countless cherished memories with family and friends. Christmas was her most cherished season, when her beautiful décor and famous village displays filled her home with warmth and joy—a tradition she lovingly kept as a promise to her firstborn son.
Catherine was more than a wife, mother, and grandmother—she was a beloved aunt, loyal friend, and a second mother to her children’s friends. She shared a special bond with her “soul sisters,” Deena Argoudelis Tharp and Karynn Steinbrenner Drew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Sophie Sraj; her sons, Jason Sraj and Charles Swanson; Jack and Roberta Barney; and beloved friends uncle Gary Shawmeker, Julie Minarich, Sandy Welsh, and Ed Guardiola.
She is now reunited with them in peace. Catherine will be remembered for her compassion, strength, and the way she made everyone feel like family.
