"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want…Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
Psalm 23:1, 6
At 86 years of age, Ms. Catherine Morgan Watson departed this life suddenly on Saturday, December 20, 2025. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
The season of Catherine began on March 25, 1939, in
Atlanta, Georgia. Affectionately known as "Cat," she was the third eldest of seven children born to the late Mr. John Burt Morgan and the late Ms. Sarah Causey Morgan. From an early age, Catherine's life reflected strength, quiet determination, and a nurturing spirit that would later define her relationships and service to others.
Catherine received her early education at E. R. Carter Elementary School and later graduated from the renowned Henry McNeal Turner High School, where she developed a strong foundation rooted in discipline, pride, and perseverance.
As a young woman, Catherine accepted Christ and was baptized at Wheat Street Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for many years under the leadership of the late Reverend William Holmes Borders and the late Pastor Michael L. Harris. Her Christian journey was evident through her consistent worship and devoted service as a member of the Juel Pate Borders Usher Board, Gospel Choir, and the Sign Language Ministry. Catherine's faith was not only spoken - it was lived, reflected in her kindness, humility, and unwavering trust in God.
Following high school, Catherine began her professional career at Kodak, where she worked diligently for many years. After her time at Kodak, she continued her professional journey with Wheat Street Federal Credit Union, further demonstrating her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. It was during this season of her life that she met and married the late Tommy Daniel, affectionately known as "Red," and from this union, one child was born, Valarie Renee Daniel.
The bond between Catherine and Valarie was extraordinary - deep, loving, and unbreakable. Their relationship was marked by unwavering devotion, shared laughter, fierce protection, and a love that could be felt by all who encountered them. Catherine poured her heart into motherhood, and Valarie was the center of her world. Even in Valarie's passing, Catherine carried her daughter's love with grace and strength, honoring her memory every day.
Catherine was known for her strength, quick wit, transparency, and warm presence. She was a woman of faith, family, and steadfast character.
Though her passing was sudden, Catherine lived a full life. Her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, church family, and all who were blessed to know her.
Catherine was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Valarie Renee Daniel, and her brother, Nathaniel Morgan.
She leaves to cherish her memory five devoted sisters: Ann Shepherd, Virginia Hooks, Belinda Martin (Isaac Martin, III), Iris Morgan, and Stephanie Heath; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
