Rochester, Illinois - Cathy Ganschinietz, 74, of Rochester, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at her home.
Cathy was born on July 1, 1947, in East St. Louis, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Schreiber) Van Volkenburg. She married William Ganschinietz on August 17, 1968.
Cathy was an avid artist and teacher. She worked in communications, as well as sales for WTAX, as well as substitute teaching at Rochester Middle School. Cathy also loved supporting various pet adoption agencies as well.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Cathy is survived by her husband, William; and daughter, Allison.
A Memorial gathering will be held on March 9, 2022 at Wilson Park Funeral Home, from 5:00-7:00PM.
Memorial donations may be made to an Animal Rescue of your choice.
Wilson Park Funeral Home, 200 E. Main Street, in Rochester is in charge of arrangements.

I saw Cathy many times in passing when I worked at the Congregational Church. Although I didn't have the opportunity to really get to know her, I was always touched by her presence. I always felt she had a glow about her, a beautiful spirit, boundless love and kindness. Sometimes a person doesn't have to know someone well in order to be affected by them in this way. Cathy truly brought a ray of light when she was present. With how I experienced Cathy, I know the beauty of her life of love and kindness continues beyond her physical presence. My heart goes out to you Bill as I know it is so hard losing someone that you loved so deeply. I am thinking of you and wishing you all the best.
