Cathy Ostaszewski Obituary

Published by McCafferty Sweeney Slabinski Barnes Funerals and Cremations from May 25 to May 26, 2022.
Cathy Ostaszewski, age 70, formerly of Philadelphia, was born on May 1, 1952 to her mother, Mary Bowers. and passed away on May 19, 2022. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Joseph Ostaszewski. They were blessed with four children; Joseph (Janeen), Patrick (Mary), Casey Edwards, and Andrew Ostaszewski. On May 19th, she was reunited with Casey, Andrew, and her mother in Heaven. Cathy was a wonderful big sister to her siblings; Phyllis (Pete), Peggy, and Brian, and sister-of-her-heart, Jeanie. Cathy's grandchildren were the light of her life: Danny, Jake, Noah, Jalen, Molly, Kaia, Claire, and Ryan. She was truly the heart of her family. She enjoyed spending time with all of her family; aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, brother-in-law's and sister-in-law's. Cathy had many close friends whom she also considered family. She was happiest when all those she loved were together and loved family trips to the Poconos, cruises, celebrations, trivia, and many, many card games. Cathy will be remembered for her amazing storytelling ability, even though her children question the validity of her stories. Cathy was an excellent cook, however she didn't eat most of what she made (no mayo, no cheese). Her pasta salad was a must at all family gatherings. It was important to Cathy that there was something that everyone liked to eat, including 10 possible dessert options, with at least one ice cream cake. The Ostaszewski holiday celebrations were beyond special and memorable because of Cathy and Joe's determination to make all those they loved feel special. Truly one of a kind, she was the glue that kept her family together. Nothing would make her happier than to know that we will continue the parties, the storytelling, the card games, trivia, and love (pasta salad). "Cathy O", as she was fondly known, made many lifelong friends during her jobs at Sears, Philadelphia Library, IRS, and PECO. Cathy O. always cared for those she worked with and would always go the extra mile to be a great coworker and friend. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Breathing Room Foundation at BreathingRoomFoundation.org Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing and funeral on Monday June 6th from 10:30 AM to her 12 noon funeral mass in St. Bartholomew's Church, 5600 Jackson Street, Philadelphia. (please park in the church paking lot using the Cheltenham avenue entrance). Her interment will be held privately. Please share your fondest memories of Cathy at PhillyFunerals.com. Cathy O. was the most helpful person I've ever known. She was always willing to support, provide guidance and she never gave up on anyone. She was a treasure to PECO and we will mourn her loss for a very long time. I send my sincerest condolences to her Family for their significant loss. ~Lauren F.
