Cathy Smith Obituary

CATHY JO SMITH
December 30, 1945 ˜ May 19, 2022

It’s been one year since Cathy passed away, suddenly, unexpectedly but peacefully and on her own terms. She was born in Bremerton but raised in Castle Rock where small town values were ingrained. She kept in touch with classmates throughout the years not only at reunions but informal get togethers also.
Cathy loves her three children, first and foremost, always putting their best interests ahead of her own. She raised some amazing kids who have in their own right become stellar adults and in turn, raised some amazing kids of their own and now great grandkids. She absolutely adored all seven grandkids and the four great grans. Mom/Granny will be ever present in their hearts and souls. She loved her much older sisters as well, all of the kid’s spouses and all the nieces and nephews. And Doug, her loving husband of almost 38 years who she saw things in him that he didn’t and was able to bring out the best in him.
She loved so many others things; warm blue waters, white sandy beaches, and a riding in convertibles with the top down. She loved working in the travel industry which gave her many opportunities to travel. Eventually, she would start her own travel agency. She loved getting breakfast in bed, and sitting on the deck with a glass of Chardonnay, talking and laughing with family and friends. She loved watching dogs running free on the beach and all other animals except squirrels and possums but mainly squirrels. She loved seeing the ANG jets taking off from the airport and thunderstorms, especially when there was lightning. She loved to try new things like golfing , ballroom dancing and sailing. She loved Trivial Pursuit but hated when Doug would get Beatle questions. She loved other board games and playing card’s with family and friends. And the occasional jaunt to Las Vegas. She really loved to laugh which she said sounded like Muttely, the cartoon dog.
There are so many memories even with the bad experiences she would say “We’re gonna laugh about this one day.” And that we did, so many times.
Be thankful and humble by knowing her and loving her but know there’s a hollow in our lives that will be forever.
Celebrate Cathy’s life by laughing, sharing your memories, singing along with the Oldies or Kris Kristofferson and cherish each other daily.
