Celia Courtney Nail, 94, of Asheville, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at the CarePartners Solace Center.

Born May 11, 1931 in Buncombe Co., Celia was a daughter of the late Pearmon and Ardie Hall Courtney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Martin Nail, Jr., and by her son, William M. Nail, III.

Mrs. Nail retired from the Buncombe County Board of Education. She was a long-time member of Abernethy United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir, B.E.A.R. Closet Ministry, Prayer Quilt Ministry, and the United Women of Faith. She was most recently a member of Radiant Church in Arden.

Surviving are extended family members and many friends.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6 with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. at Abernethy United Methodist Church, with Pastors Noel Sweezy and Timothy Brown officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Nail would like donations to be made to ABCCM, 24 Cumberland Ave., Asheville, NC 28801, or to the B.E.A.R. Closet at Abernethy United Methodist Church, 1418 Patton Ave., Asheville, NC 28806.

Burial will be private.

Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.
