Celine Mary Merz

Celine M. Merz, age 82, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026. She was born April 24, 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Walter C. Merz and Dorothy Weber Merz. After attending Pius High School she started her working career. Years later, after the passing of her parents, she moved to Wendell, NC to be close to her immediate family, where she worked for Mortex Apparel Factory Outlet for several years.

Celine enjoyed going to the Eastern Wake Senior Center where she attended social events, volunteered, and participated in various activities; her favorite one was playing Bingo. She loved to shop for clothes, shoes and jewelry. She also loved sporting events. If a game was on television she was eagerly watching it.

She never married or had any kids but she lived a very fulfilled life and developed very close relationships with her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Celine is survived by her brother, Bob Merz; sister, Joan Merz Fitts; nieces and nephews: Michelle Merz-Hutchinson, Mike Merz, Bobby Fitts, Patti Fitts Gallagher, Kevin Fitts, Brian Fitts, and Kenny Fitts.

She is also survived by her great nieces and great nephews: Brett Hocutt, Taylor Merz, Katelyn Fitts, Kennedy Fitts, Connor Fitts, McKenley Fitts, Mason Merz-Hutchinson, Marin Merz-Hutchinson, Hudson Fitts and Jack Fitts.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Walter and Dorothy Merz; her sister-in-law, Mary Merz; brother-in-law, Tommy Fitts; maternal and paternal grandparents; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, February 28, 2026, at St Eugene Catholic Church, 608 Lions Club Rd, Wendell, NC.

The family will receive friends after Mass.
