Celso Fonseca Obituary
Celso A. Fonseca, 75, of Cumberland passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at home surrounded in the love of his family. He was the husband of Maria (Chagas) Fonseca and they had been married for the past 50 years.
Born in Matanca, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose and Zulmira (Pereira) Fonseca. He moved to this country in 1995, settling in Cumberland.
Celso proudly served his country of Portugal as a communications specialist while in the Portuguese Army during the Portuguese Colonial War.
Mr. Fonseca was employed as machine operator for the General Cable Company for many years until his retirement.
Celso was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland. He was a dedicated and passionate Benfica fan and he also enjoyed gardening as well as trips back to his hometown in Portugal.
In addition to his wife, Maria, he leaves his children Joao Fonseca and his wife Lisa of Lincoln and Ana Carvalho and her husband Joaquim of Cumberland; his two beloved grandchildren Sara and Lucas Carvalho; as well as his nephew, Danny Oliveira and his niece Sandra Cordeiro. He was the brother of the late Arlete Oliveira.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Celso's Life Celebration to be held with Visitation on Monday, February 2, 2026 from 5 to 7 PM and continue on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
