Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sioux Funeral Home from Dec. 2 to Dec. 8, 2025.
Arlette E. Has No Horse was born on February 06, 1964 in
Pine Ridge, SD to Arthur Has No Horse, Sr. and Priscilia Plenty Arrows. Arlette made her journey to the Spirit World on November 30, 2025 at the Bennett County Hospital in Martin, SD.
Arlette was born and raised in Yellow Bear (Skokpa), where she loved to do horseback riding, gardening, and the country outdoor living. Arlette's first language is Lakota and following the traditional culture.
Arlette attended the Allen Day School; she went on to high school for a couple of years and eventually obtained her GED. Arlette continued with classes at Oglala Lakota College and graduated with her AA in Lakota Language and general studies.
Arlette applied her knowledge, experience and abilities to the Lakota children and started employment at American Horse School for 3 years as a teacher aide, bilingual aide and a secretary. She later moved to
Wanblee, SD and began her work as a cook at the headstart. Arlette had the love and compassion for teaching the children. She started work at the Crazy Horse School, where she worked a total of 27 years, 16 of those years as an elementary school secretary/administrative assistant, 8 years as a Lakota Paraprofessional, 3 years for the TWO Project Aware family and community liaison. She loved teaching and caring for the children, they were all her takojas, she helped them in so many ways and always with a hug.
Arlette had a heart of gold, she visited, laughed, told jokes and stories with anyone she crossed paths with and always advocated for peace. She will be greatly missed by all who have had the opportunity to have known her. She made her journey unexpectedly; she broke our hearts. She will be reunited and greeted with open arms by her sons, a baby girl, her dad, mother, sisters, nephews and nieces.
