Charlene Bertrand, 70, of Arundel passed away with family by her side on Sunday July 13, 2025. She had been in declining health for several months.
She was born in Biddeford, ME, the daughter of Lionel and Jeanine Bertrand and attended St. Joseph school and graduated from Biddeford High School in 1973. After working for Methot Insurance for a few years, Charlene made the bold decision to move to California where the weather is warmer and the beaches are everywhere. She lived in Sunnyvale, San Jose, and Fresno and worked as an accounting specialist, retiring from Siemens in 2017. Charlene made the decision to move back to Maine four years ago and found a home in Arundel. She was happy to reconnect with family and friends but had forgotten how cold it gets here in the winter!
She was a consummate knitter, mass producing hats, mittens, scarves and blankets for the Fresno homeless center. She was an accomplished cross-stitcher and made beautiful wall hangings and Christmas stockings. Charlene was a giver. Though health issues sometimes held her back, she used her talent for knitting to help others. She loved God fiercely and was never shy in sharing His love with those she came in contact with.
Charlene was predeceased by her parents and brother Marcel. She is survived by her brother Leonard and sister-in-law Jo-Ann, as well as a few California friends, and her best friend of 50 years Carol Grenier.
A burial service for family and friends will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 1:00 pm.
