Charlene Joy Davis passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. She was born on February 11, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri to Charles and Hazel (Brown) Green.

Being the daughter of two deaf parents, Charlene learned sign language at a young age, embodying the spirit of empathy andd understanding that carried her through life.

Charlene married James Long in 1961, and they raised two children, Debra and James Rad Long. A woman of boundless energy, Charlene was active in her community. She volunteered with Cub Scouts, PTA, and the William Chrisman Booster Club. Later she was a dedicated member of the Eagles Lodge Women's Auxiliary, and a dedicated member of Grace Church, living out her strong Christian faith.

In her professional life, Charlene worked in the mortgage industry for many years, and then for Catholic Charities as the administrator of the Holy Cross senior center, where her kindness and selflessness shined through.

Charlene lived life in keeping with her middle name - Joy. She was kind-hearted, social, and always put others before herself. Her love of music and dance was surpassed only by her deep affection for her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her – family members, friends, and the countless lives she touched along the way.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 24 years, Charles “Mike” Davis; daughter, Debra O’Renick (Mark); son, James "Rad" Long; grandchildren, Anna O’Renick and Haden Long. She is also survived by step children Robert Davis (Jaimie), and Cheryl Weedman (Kenny) and Michelle Meltin; and step grandchildren, Destiny, Natalie, Charles, Cameron, Joshua, Lexus, Alyssia, Nichole, Jake and TJ.

Charlene is preceded in death by her late husband, James; her parents, Charles and Hazel Green; siblings, Helen, Cathy, Don and Bob; daughter-in-law Jenney, and stepson Michael.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7th from 9-10am at Carson-Speaks Chapel in Independence, Mo. Her funeral service will begin at 10am with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
