Charlene McConnell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Colvin Funeral Home - Princeton on Dec. 9, 2025.
Charlene J. "Charlie" McConnell was born March 2, 1948, to Doris and Edwin "Bud" Sollman. Raised as a proud Ft. Branch Twig, she carried the values of her hometown with her throughout her life. She graduated from Evansville College with degrees in Biology and Home Economics, and on June 19, 1971, she married William McConnell II.

Charlie completed her master's degree in Psychology and went on to teach at Rolling Meadows High School for eight years before she and Bill returned to Princeton. It was there that Charlie's natural leadership and deep commitment to others took root in ways that shaped the community for decades. She became co-owner of the former F&M Building and Home Supplies, a role that allowed her to connect with countless neighbors. Whether someone came in needing materials or simply a listening ear, Charlie greeted them with kindness, practical wisdom, and genuine care and created connections that grew into lifelong friendships.

Her service extended far beyond her business. Charlie was a active member of St. Joseph Church, where she lived her faith through quiet acts of generosity and steadfast involvement. She dedicated more than 35 years to 4-H as a leader and board member, investing in generations of young people. Through each project, each fair, and each word of encouragement, she helped shape confident, capable youth and strengthened the community she loved.

Charlie's creativity was another gift she shared freely. Well known for her beautiful cakes, her sewing, and her art, she brought joy and comfort into the lives of others with the work of her hands. She treasured her time at Lake Barkley, where she and her family formed friendships that became second families over the years. Even in retirement, Charlie remained active, running her Windows on Wheels business and continuing to serve others in practical, meaningful ways.

Above all, Charlie was selfless and always showed up without hesitation whenever someone needed help. She lived with a strong and unwavering faith in God, and that faith guided her relationships, her work, and every act of kindness she offered.

She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother. She is survived by her husband, Bill; her children Jessica (Bo) Ross and Will (Michael Reece) McConnell; and her beloved grandchildren Darian, Kirsten, and Nolan Ross. She is also survived by her sister, Sandra (Ed) Shelby; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or the Retired Military Veterans. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am Saturday, December 13, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Princeton, IN, with Fr. Gary Kaiser as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Princeton. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton and from 9 am until 10 am on Saturday at the church.
