WAUPUN - Charlene Jean Zills, age 56, of Waupun, died suddenly and peacefully, on Sunday, March 9, 2025, in Webster, Fla., with her loving husband by her side. She was born on November 5, 1968, in Wild Rose, to Larry and Betty (Bohn) Wegenke. She grew up in rural Wautoma helping out on the family farm. Charlene attended school in Wautoma, graduating from high school in 1986. On October 2, 1993, she was united in marriage to Clete Zills at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wautoma. They were happily married for 31 years. The couple farmed dairy goats for many years in Waupun before retiring and spending their winters together in Webster, Fla. Charlene had also worked at Quadgraphics before becoming a dedicated homemaker and hardworking farming wife while raising three daughters. She also worked briefly at Jen-Ter Wire & Element in Fox Lake. She enjoyed her animals on the farm, gardening, canning, diamond art, reading, and attending flea markets with her husband by her side. Charlene had a passion for birds and had a special fondness for cardinals. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed the joy her grandchildren brought to her life.
Charlene is survived by her husband, Clete Zills; father, Larry Wegenke; sister, Darlene Wegenke; daughters, Courtney (Andrew) Twardokus, Candis (Brandon) Breitkreutz, Christal (Andrew) Hopfensperger; grandchildren, Esther, Gabriel, Ruth Twardokus, and Sydney Breitkreutz; uncle, Delbert (Mary) Bohn; aunt, Marilyn (Howie) Holland; special cousin, Lyle Pomplun; other cousins, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Wegenke; infant brother, Bryon; uncle, Darwin Bohn; her father-in-law and mother-in-law.
Visitation for Charlene will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun, and Monday, March 24, 2025, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at Pella Lutheran Church, 315 Madison Street, Waupun.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., at Pella Lutheran Church, with Pastor David Knuth. Burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
