Charles Alvin Alford, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, at the age of 87 as a resident of Jefferson, GA. Born on April 17, 1937, in Atlanta, GA, Charles was a former resident of Lawrenceville's Bethesda Community, where he built a lifetime of memories and lasting relationships.
Charles attended Bethesda Elementary School in the 1940s and furthered his education at Darlington Boys School, Georgia Military Academy, and Oglethorpe University. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Charles continued to serve his community through his involvement with Bethesda United Methodist Church and as a member of the Masonic Lodge in Lilburn, GA.
Charles was a man of many talents, known for his love of tinkering, building, and creating. Whether crafting barrel trains or earning his pilot's license, Charles had a deep curiosity and enthusiasm for life. Professionally, he worked for Southeast Precast and Partitions Incorporated before establishing his own business, Charles Alford Contracting, where he dedicated himself until his retirement.
Charles's kindness, generosity, and boundless love were the hallmarks of his character. He made his family feel like the most important people in the world and treated everyone he met with genuine kindness and warmth. Charles never met a stranger, and his welcoming spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, James Arthur Alford and Celia Kelley Alford; his brother, James Arthur Alford, Jr.; and his granddaughter, Macy Alexandria Cruce.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Peggy Wages Alford; his daughters, Janna Alford Kimmons (Barry) and Joanna Alford Cruce (Randy); his grandchildren, Courtney Cruce, Connor Ireland, Ansley Cruce, and Chase Ireland; and his great-granddaughter, Harper Cruce. Charles also leaves behind numerous friends and loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Wages and Sons Gwinnett Chapel, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30046, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM to celebrate Charles's remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Charles's honor, reflecting his generous and compassionate spirit.
Charles Alvin Alford will be remembered for his generosity, unwavering love, and the joy he brought to everyone he encountered. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all who were blessed to know him.
