Charles Reid Bame, 95, died November 2, 2025 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, he was born September 15,1930 to Reid Josephus Bame and Sue Sheets Bame, both of whom predeceased him in death. He served his nation in the US Navy from January 8, 1951to November 2, 1954. He was Honorably Discharged and was given the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal "E", Korean Service Medal "S" and the United Nations Service Medal.
Upon returning home, he worked and retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. When he retired, he remained busy delivering Meals on Wheels to people who needed food.
He was part of the Methodist Men's Association and a member of Central Terrace United Methodist Church until moving to Maple Springs Baptist Church with his wife. He always tried to help people in need and tried to remember those who were lonely with a call, card, or visit.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Bouchard Bame, two sons, Stephen and Scott Bame, and a brother John Henry Bame.
He is survived by a daughter, Susan Reid Bame (Crystal Robinson) of Shelby, NC; a niece, Leigh Bame Burton of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Catlyn, Reanna, Sarah, Nicholas and Nova Robinson, of Shelby, NC
He is also survived by Paula Leonard, whom he watched grow up 2 houses down from them and loved like a daughter. She has helped take care of and handle things for Charles for many years, financially and health-wise, even helping him move to Arbor Acres Retirement Community.
The family would like to thank Arbor Acres for the great care and wonderful place to live that they provided for Charles in his later years.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00PM on Friday, November 7, 2025 at the mausoleum chapel in Parklawn Memorial Park, 2730 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC with Rev. Mary Beth Henderson officiating. Entombment will take place after the service. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00PM in the Mausoleum Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a cause that he held very dear to him, St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem is assisting the family.
