Charles Adrian “Bud” Benton, born March 19, 1941, passed away peacefully at his home on January 27, 2026, at the age of 84.
Bud was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and grew up in Batchelor, Louisiana on his father’s dairy farm, instilling a deep love of farming. The Benton family has a long history of farming that began on Benton land in the late 1800’s. Following in his ancestors’ footsteps, Bud started farming sunflowers and vegetables over 39 years ago on his family’s land. The farm is now known as Mon Jardin Farms.
Bud was one of the original founding members of the Pointe Coupee Farmers Co-Op and was also one of the original members of the Red Stick Farmers Market in downtown Baton Rouge. You could find him almost every Saturday selling his beautiful sunflowers. He was always trading sunflowers for smiles.
Bud is survived by his partner of twenty years, Sandy Saye, his sons, Mark Benton (Jami) and Christopher Benton (Kristy); grandchildren, Ryan Benton (Will Callahan), Kyle Benton and Brett Benton; sisters, Ouida West and Karen Banks. He is preceded in death by parents, Sydney Irving Benton and Hattie Palmer Benton; daughter, Traci Lynn Benton; sister Judy Gaspard and the mother of his children, Doris Delaune Benton.
Visitation will take place at St. Shephen’s Episcopal Church, 9795 LA-418, Lettsworth, Louisiana on Saturday, January 31, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM and burial to follow at Lower Latanache Baptist Church Cemetery, 11820 LA-417, Batchelor, Louisiana. A reception will follow the burial at the church hall.
Pallbearers will include Ryan Benton, Brett Benton, Kyle Benton, Adam Mason, Blake McCrary and Alan Andrus.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Red Stick Farmers Market at www.breadala-bloom.kindful.com.
