The Brown and Bessent family are saddened to announce the passing of Charles Michael “Mike” Brown, age 57, a loving father of 3 and handsome husband to Penny Brown. He unexpectedly passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah following an acute cardiac incident, surrounded by his devoted family. Charles was born and raised in the Sandridge Community of Coffee County. During his professional career, he dedicated over 25 years of his life working as an electrician for Fleetwood Homes in Douglas, GA, before retiring. Over the course of his tenure at Fleetwood, he was blessed to be able to work side by side with his brother and nephews. In his leisure time, Charles found joy in riding dirt roads in his blue Dodge pickup truck and spending time fishing. As the sun went down, he would while away the hours watching wrestling and old westerns. Above all, Charles cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, always by their side for every precious moment. In fact, he was instrumental in raising each of his grandchildren, a task he took on with joy and delight. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Inez Stephens “Granny Inez”, chosen brother, Man “Pa Man” Corbitt, and many more close friends and relatives were awaiting his arrival at the gates of Heaven.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than 38 years, Penny Denise Brown of Collins;; two daughters, Jana Denise (Kevin) Bessent of Collins, and Rebecca Ann Brown (Kyle Lumley) of Hazlehurst; his son, Michael Corey Brown (Jennifer Abernathy) of Fitzgerald; his mother, Glenda Faye Wilson; his brother, Quillie Anthony of Albany; three sisters, Kaneah (David) Anthony of Bickley, Sandra (Dewayne) Deen of Waycross, and Kalane (Tony) Henderson of Bonaire. He also leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren: Jazmine, Kevin Jr.(Lizzy Stanley), Jeremy, Aireonna, Abigaile, Keiley, and Kimberly; a great grandchild, due in March that he was looking forward to welcoming to the world; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends made along life’s journey.
