Charles Michael Casey was born in Hoisington, Kansas on November 29, 1951 to Charles Woodrow Casey and Jimye Ruth Roberson Casey. His siblings were Rita Ruth Grove, Reba Delores Moore and Jimmey Landon Coffman. Mike is preceded in death by his father Charles Casey, May 16th 1969, his mother Ruth Casey, May 28th, 2001 and his brother Jimmey Coffman, September 9th, 2014.
Mike attended grade school and high school in Hoisington, Kansas. He worked with his mother Ruth who was an Interior Designer and his father who was a painter and carpenter. Mike developed a love of design and woodworking, both skills he would use throughout his life. Mike joined the Navy and remained passionately patriotic throughout his lifetime. He was honorably discharged from the Navy December 23rd, 1971.
One of Mike's proudest accomplishments was being a Father to his only daughter Stephanie Halley who was born February 20th, 1977. He absolutely adored Stephanie and being Grandpa to his grandchildren Brittany, Brandon and Kurstin. Stephanie describes her dad as her biggest fan and the man that loved her first and put her on a pedestal.
Mike initially came to Tulsa to Spartan School to learn to fly. He did fly for a while and absolutely loved it and later became an instructor himself teaching others how to fly. After that he went back to his roots and became a talented designer and window dressing expert and started his own business, Custom Designs and did installation for Interior Designers in the Tulsa area. It was in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he met and married the love of his life Debra "Debbie" Martin. They were married on May 27th, 1994. They were often described as the model couple. Even after 30+ years of marriage Mike insisted on opening doors and especially car doors for his forever bride. Mike and Debbie enjoyed trips to the ocean, Mike especially enjoyed deep sea fishing, and they enjoyed a couple of cruises they took together and traveling together. They loved their neighbors Cully and Sharon and would often spend Saturdays visiting and sharing meals together. Even after their neighbors moved to Brenham, Texas, they continued to visit monthly to stay in touch.
Mike's skills were heard about and took him to Fabricut in Tulsa where he worked after closing his business Custom Designs. He was recognized for his skills at various trade shows for his outstanding work and was then recruited to Palm Springs California with a company called Contract Décor where he and Debbie lived for a time. Debbie recalled their first Christmas in Palm Springs when they couldn't come back for the Holidays having just moved. He talked her into just traveling up the coast with no plans and no reservations. After initially not finding any restaurants open, they ended up in Santa Barbara and it became one of their favorite memories. They found a wonderful little place to stay with a restaurant with amazing seafood. Mike was again sought out for his work and a computer program he had written and was recruited to come to Texas as part of a joint venture. This is what led Mike and Debbie to Texas, a place they would call home. They settled in Wimberley Texas after living first in New Braunfels. They established deep roots in Wimberley and Mike was known by everyone in the Wimberley Café. Stephanie recalled visiting the café and seeing her dad hang his cowboy hat on long horns that were mounted above the front doorway. It was his home away from home and the family and friends he made at the café were amazing. His best friend Rudy and Mike were frequently at the café for breakfast stirring up all kinds of mischief. Mike was quick-witted and loved playing practical jokes, all in good fun. Mike was at the Café, not just for breakfast or for fun, but he was always ready to listen and offer advice to anyone in need. He never met a stranger and always had a big smile underneath his trademark handlebar mustache and Texas sized white cowboy hat. In retirement, Mike helped many local businesses, including the Wimberley café with computer needs. He was described by many as always willing to lend a hand.
Mike was also very loving and supportive to Debbie's daughter Deanna and her grandchildren especially Daylena and Ashlynn who both lived in Texas with Mike and Debbie and Mike at different times. He called them his daughter and granddaughters and never made any difference in his treatment of them. Daylena and her daughter Jaylee recently moved back to Texas and Ashlynn did as well. Mike and Debbie loved having family so close and the time together in the last few months has been priceless.
Mike was a believer in Jesus Christ and we take comfort in knowing that we will see him again in Heaven. He and Debbie attend Cypress Creek Church.
Mike is survived by his loving wife Debbie, his daughter Stephanie and husband Scott Halley, her children, Brittany, Brandon, Kurstin, sisters Rita Grove and Delores Moore, Step-Daughter Deanna Durham and husband Joshua, granddaughter Daylena, grandson Luke Gehri, grandson Leo Gehri.
