Granddaddy
“Gone fishin’” could be his epitaph,
But he was so much more than a fisherman.
Granddaddy could always make you laugh,
Or comfort you with his wisdom.
His smile like Clark Gable’s,
And a laugh as warm as Santa’s;
Hugs strong as you were able,
He was always there to cheer us.
His heart was open and full,
His accomplishments many,
Even if his stories were a line of bull,
To all of us, they were worth every penny.
He lived and loved with all his might
Despite heart attacks and strokes,
He just would never lose sight
Of living, counting himself a lucky bloke.
All felt welcome around him,
Whether at the holidays
Or on the boat fishing,
His company was just the thing.
The tears now come because with his passing,
A shift has happened
That will be everlasting.
Each of our memories are precious treasures,
Our personal remembrances
That we will keep forever.
I have no doubt that in Heaven he’s fishin’
Loving us all and maybe just wishin’
That if we each could learn something from his life,
That we should embrace every moment, even in strife.
