Bonners Ferry Funeral HomeCharles Raymond Stockdale was born on July 25, 1037, in Sandpoint, Idaho, to Lila and Raymond Stockdale. As the eldest of seven siblings – including two brothers, two sisters, a half-brother, and a stepsister – he grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and care for others.
Charles – known affectionately as Chuck – served our country in the U.S. Army and later net the love of his life, Patsy Gurule, in Portland, Oregon. They were married and shared 57 devoted years together until his passing on September 25th in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Throughout his life, Chuck lived in Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. At the age of 40, he moved his family of eight to Bonners Ferry, where he built a life rooted in hard work, nature, and community.
A true outdoorsman, Chuck found joy in hunting and fishing, passions he loved to share with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was hardworking man of many trades – starting as a young boy, he worked as a caddy and bowling pin-setter in Sandpoint. As an adult, he worked on a dairy farm, drove grain trucks, logged, and repaired vehicles, eventually retiring as a maintenance supervisor at the Boundary County Community Restorium.
Even in retirement, Chuck remained active. He could be found tinkering with his trucks, improving his home, and lending a helping hand to family, friends, or neighbors in need. He genuinely cared about those around him and kept up with the goings-on of his town, often sharing stories, updates, and a bit of friendly gossip with a twinkle in his eye. His porch or garage was a frequent gathering spot, where laughter and conversation flowed freely.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on October 18th, at Great Northwest Territories Event Center.
