Charles David Cochran, age 74, of Sagamore Beach, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 14th at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. Born December 28th, 1949 in
Watertown, MA to Charles and Lillian (Eckert) Cochran (both deceased). Chuck grew up in Watertown and
Billerica, MA, and was the loving husband of Karen (Loschiavo) Cochran (deceased) for over 45 years. He was the beloved father to Kate Vachon (husband Scott) of East Providence, Ryan Cochran (deceased), and Nicole Benanto (husband Jeff) of Duxbury. Chuck was a beaming Papa to his six grandchildren Kateri Garcia (23) and husband Alex, Nate (22) and Kolbe Vachon (20), and Clara (7), Chloe (5), and Maren Benanto (3 weeks) and one great-grandson, Mateo Garcia (3 months). Papa was known for planning exciting and imaginative adventures for his grandchildren, summer days teaching them the fine art of clamming, and recounting tales of his adventurous younger days. Chuck is survived by his sister Linda Cochran Milner of South Carolina and was predeceased by his brother Ronald Cochran.
Chuck spent his career in several roles over the years including Friendly's Corporation and numerous roles in waste management. A longtime resident of Sagamore Beach, Chuck enjoyed fishing, clamming, and cooking delicious dishes that he created with his own talent for flavor. After living his Cursillo, Chuck developed a prayerful relationship with Jesus, starting each day by reading his Bible or his Jesus Calling book while enjoying a cup of coffee. When his children Ryan and Nicole were younger, Chuck enjoyed coaching their basketball teams and cheering them on from the sidelines. Chuck loved dogs but none topped his beloved Nina who was with him for over 19 years. His faithful companion was never far from his side. Chuck was affectionately known by his grandson Kolbe as the Cookie Monster due to his love for sweet treats at night. Memories were made with his granddaughters Clara and Chloe during Noni and Papa's sleepovers where Papa taught them the fine art of pizza making. Chuck enjoyed traveling with his beloved bride Karen, from trips to Mexico to stays in Newport RI, with a particular fondness for Isla Mujeres where he dreamt about retiring to. Chuck was a loving son as he and Karen welcomed his mother into his home in her last years. Everyone who knew Chuck knew him as having a strong spirit, being hard-working, funny, friendly, kind, and having a deep respect for those working in blue-collar jobs. He will be missed by us all.
A Mass and Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
