It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Costello, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, who left this world on December 22, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on January 25, 1935, in
Brooklyn, New York, Charles led a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community.
Charles was the cherished son of Josephine and Salvatore Costello. He grew up in Brooklyn, where he cultivated a warm and kind-hearted disposition that endeared him to all who knew him. His beautiful smile and funny sense of humor were hallmarks of his character, bringing joy to family gatherings and friendships alike.
Charles married the love of his life, Rose Celardo Costello, and together they created a loving home filled with laughter and support for 60 wonderful years, until her passing in 2021. He was a devoted husband who prioritized the well-being of his family above all else. His legacy lives on through his daughters, Rosemarie Salvador, Josephine Ceglecki, and Angela Weiner, as well as his son-in-law, John Ceglecki. Charles was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and the adoring great-grandfather of twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his brother, Nick Costello and his sister, Nora Ryan. He was predeceased by his brother, John Costello.
Charles served his country honorably in the Army, a testament to his dedication and sense of duty. After his military service, he embarked on a career as a police officer, proudly serving his community, and later transitioned into a security role after retirement. His commitment to protecting and serving others was a reflection of his character and values.
In his leisure time, Charles found joy in various activities. He loved playing baseball, tennis, and paddleball, as well as cheering on his favorite teams, the New York Mets and the Knicks. He cherished moments spent playing cards and reading books, but above all, his greatest joy came from ensuring the happiness and well-being of his wife and family.
Throughout his life, Charles was known for his warmth, kindness, and the ability to make others laugh. He touched the lives of many with his generous spirit and unwavering support.
In his final years, Charles received exceptional care from his devoted caregiver, Tahira, whose patience, love, and kindness provided comfort during a challenging time. His family is grateful for the compassion shown to him.
Charles Costello will be remembered not only for his love of family and commitment to service but also for the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those who knew him.
