Charles Crane Obituary

Published by Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery on Oct. 25, 2013.
CRANE M.D., CHARLES R. was born in Dallas, Texas on January 28, 1939. He went home to be with the Lord on October 25, 2013. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1957, he attended Southern Methodist University where he played baritone in the SMU Mustang Band. He enlisted in the Air Force National Guard and was a member of the 531st Air Force Band. Charles graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1964 and then completed his residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. He practiced medicine in Dallas, Texas, for 49 years in the field of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Management. In 1963, Charles married Ann Stephenson of Dallas, Texas, and they were fortunate to be able to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this year. They had two children, Shannon and Michael. He loved being involved in all of their activities including sports, theater, and math homework. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Plano, Texas, where he taught Sunday School for many years. Charles loved spending time with his grandchildren and would attend as many of their events as time would allow. He enjoyed taking his family on trips to Disney World where he would spend his time marveling at the organization of the Disney transportation system, or maybe taking random photos of strangers while everyone else spent their time riding the rides. He enjoyed model trains and dreamed of the day when he would have the room to build his own. Charles was preceded in death by parents, Fred C. Crane, Jr. and Margaret Paetschow Crane, and brother Fred C. Crane, III. He is survived by his wife, Ann Stephenson Crane, children Shannon Ummel and Michael Crane, son-in-law, David Ummel, and daughter-in-law, Kristin Crane. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Lauren and Luke Ummel, and Kyle, Cody, and Cade Crane. Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Restland Memorial Chapel.
