ELLSWORTH — It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Charles Edward Crowther, known to many simply as Charlie, who left this world on the last train to glory on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
He was born Aug. 18, 1943, to the late Charles Edgar Crowther and Violet Mae Playforth Crowther. Through his journey of 82 years, he touched many lives and was a friend to everyone he met.
For 44 years, Charlie was a welder of railroad tracks and had the opportunity to travel throughout the country. Following his retirement, he mowed grass at Diamond Back Golf Course for many years.
Charlie loved spending time with his family and friends; fishing; NASCAR; Cleveland Browns and Alabama football; and mowing perfect stripes on his front lawn in Ellsworth.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Crowther, and sister, Barbara Waller.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol Norton Crowther; one daughter, Jennifer (Tom) King of Canfield; one son, Jason Crowther of Tempe, Arizona; three grandchildren, Abigail King, Kate King and Jeremiah Crowther; one brother, Richard Crowther; and one sister, Patti Waller; along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses on the sixth floor at Mercy Health Boardman, to those in the ICU unit and to the wonderful, caring people at Hospice House in Boardman.
While we grieve Charlie’s passing, we are hosting a joyful celebration of life open house 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2026, at A La Carte Catering in Canfield.
In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Mercy Health Hospice of the Valley.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel. Family and friends are invited to visit www.higgins-reardon.com to share memories and condolences.
