In memory of
Michael Hurdle
December 7, 2010
The Hurdle Family sends love and best wishes to all The Curley's. We all remember fondly the snowy Christmas visits delivering tins of goodies for so many years as children. Charles was always the "big man" to us. He was so special to Anne and David in their "formative years" and beyond. God bless you and may Charles rest in eternal peace.

Aelise,
I just got a call from Ron Terry in Hawaii with the news of your Dad's passing. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Without a doubt, he was one of the greatest guys I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and working for. Ron and I exchanged two or three quick stories about him while we talked.
Mr. Curley was truly one of the "good guys"!

To the Curley Family - Please accept my sincere sympathy. I had the pleasure of working with Charlie at St Mary's Hospital directional desk and what a pleasure it was! He knew everyone and everyone knew him. I looked forward to each Wed at St Mary's because I would leave with my head full of Charlie's rich stories. He was a wonderful story-teller and my husband and I both enjoyed reading his book.
In time, I hope & pray that your sadness will soon be replaced with warm & loving memories of such a wonderful man! He was one of a kind!

To our Hanover Avenue friends, Mr. C will never be forgotten. I particularly remember Charlie's singular chuckle. He was a friend to all, and a kind man.
We cherished his friendship. May the Holy Spirit comfort all of you in your time of grief and mourning.
God Bless,

To the Curley family,
I extend my sincere condolences to each of you.
My father, Lt. Ulrich Crow, of College Station, Tx, was a Platoon leader for the 3rd platoon, Company E, 3rd Regiment, 2nd ID. He fought along side of Mr. Curley throughout Europe. Dad spoke of Mr. Curley many times and spoke very highly of him. I feel like I knew him myself. Our country will, sadly, rarely see the quality men such as Charles Curly, Urich Crow and the men of the 2nd ID. I have Mr. Curley's book, thankfully, and will cherish it forever, for it is a rememberance of what great men did for this country.

To the Curley Family,
I was deeply saddened to learn of Charlie's death and I would like to express my sincere sympathy to you and your family on behalf of the Fort Montbarey Memorial Museum.
We have lost a dear friend; Charley was highly respected by local historians and veterans in Brittany. He was regarded as a hero by anyone even he never admitted it.
Charlie’s contributions to liberate the Daoulas Peninsula and the City of Brest 65 years ago are well documented and he will be remembered forever. His sacrifice to free us from tyranny will not be forgotten.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences at this difficult time.
With sincere sympathy,
James Branch

To the Curley family: Charlie and I were both in the 2nd Division from Normandy to Czechoslovakia, but I didn't meet him until June 1989. We were together with other 2nd Div. veterans, tracing our WWII 1944-45 footsteps. We both have been members of the Friends of 2ID group webpage.I will miss him, greatly.

Charlie was a true example of "The Greatest Generation" beginning with his courageous service in WWII, his devotion to his family, church and friends. He will be celebrated and missed by many as an example of a life well lived. Sadly I will not be able to attend the celebration of his life in Richmond. My thoughts are with everyone. He will be missed in this family.

I was blessed into the Curly world in 1984 when I met my soon to be wife, Karen, niece of Charles Curly. When I was overwhelmed by the population of such a great family. Choo Choo was my savoir, and helped me keep my sanity. Choo Choo has shown me the importance of family and for that, I'll always be greatfull. RIP

I sure remember spending a lot of time in the house with the Red Door and the green(ish) upright piano! Both as a kid when we'd all come from Michigan to Richmond to visit all our extended family - and Grandma ("Aunt Mary") Powers would play the piano and we'd sing; and as an adult when I lived in Virginia and beyond. Charles was a gem and I was so proud of his service to our country and of his historical continuing relationships with those he engaged with during the war. I treasure the many conversations we had - and his military advice to me! - and am sad to think of not hearing any more stories. I tell you what, though, my dad - his cousin John - preceded Charlie into the choir of angels by 6 weeks and I just know he greeted him with a big ole bear hug and a hearty welcome. And those two Irishmen and Richmond gentlemen are now telling stories to each other!! My love and prayers are with all of you -
