Charles Mansfred Deck, aged 89, formerly of Narrows, Virginia passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, in Rich Creek, Virginia, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on March 20, 1936, in Virginia, Charles was a man of integrity, hard work, and deep affection for his loved ones. Charles's life was one punctuated by the enduring value of family and friendship.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment, survived by his devoted son, Mike Deck and his wife Treva; his caring daughter, Cathy Gordon and her husband WT. His grandchildren, Hannah Deck and her boyfriend Jarrett, Caleb Deck, Brent Gordon and his wife Tonya, and Kerri Lynn Stanley and her husband Cody, will miss their grandfather's wisdom and gentle guidance. Charles's joy was further multiplied by his great-grandchildren, Makoda, Seneca, Braelyn, Ryker, and Ryleigh and her husband, Castle, who brought him immeasurable happiness. He also thoroughly enjoyed being an uncle to Darren, Angie, and Dawn Blankenship. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Pauline Payne Deck, his step-mother, Julia Deck, and his sister, Jenny Edwards. His life was richer for the friendships he cultivated, especially with Gene Ratcliffe, Greg and Betty Robertson, and Rawhide Lambert, whose companionship he treasured.
For many years, Charles was a dedicated laborer at Norfolk and Southern Railroad, where his work ethic and camaraderie left a lasting impression on his colleagues. His association with the railroad was not just a job but a community where he formed many cherished memories.
Beyond his professional life, Charles had a passion for the outdoors. He found solace in the solitude of gardening, where he cultivated not just plants but also patience and peace. Hunting and fishing were more than hobbies; they were the threads that connected him with nature and the cycle of life. His love for these activities was only surpassed by the love he held for his family. Charles's greatest joy was found in the company of his grandchildren, whose achievements and milestones he celebrated with pride and enthusiasm.
