Charles William "Bill" Dishman, age 93, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, January 19, 2026. Bill was born in Greenfield on January 27, 1932, to Charles Albert and Clara Marie (Roland) Dishman. He graduated from Greenfield High School Class of 1950, where he was a standout athlete. He attended Lincoln Memorial University on a basketball scholarship where he also played baseball. He had a love for the game of basketball and he played competitively in area leagues including many games in the old Dearborn Hotel Gym in Indy well into his 30's. Bill was a long time Pacers and Colts season ticket holder and enjoyed taking his grandsons and other family members to the games.
After retiring, he enjoyed playing golf at his winter home in Lake Alfred, Florida, where he played almost daily. In the summertime, he played with friends known as the "Old Boys Group" at Greenfield Country Club, Hawk's Tail Golf Club, and other courses in Central Indiana. He enjoyed attending his grandsons, Ryan and Eric Roberts, wrestling matches and Alex Roberts, baseball games for Greenfield-Central High School, and his step-grandson, Brayton Shannon's football games at Mt. Vernon High School and Franklin College.
Bill had two rewarding work careers, first at Indiana Bell for twenty-two years and second in the real estate business as a broker/owner for over thirty years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the American Legion, Greenfield Country Club, Hawk's Tail Golf Club, Cypress Creek Golf Community Golf Club in
Lake Alfred, FL, and he attended Trinity Park Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Julia (Hensley) Dishman; sisters, Bonnie Hill and Patricia Adkins; daughter, Cindy (David) Roberts; sons, William Alan (Sid) and Martin Dishman; grandsons, Ryan (Danielle), Eric, and Alex (Taylor) Roberts; great-grandchildren, Theodore, Cora, Reagan, and Rowan Roberts; step-children, Michael (Lita), Jeffrey (Angel) Hensley, and Christine (Matthew) Shannon; step-grandchildren, Julia, Jada, Jewell Hensley; Brayton (Mallory), and Brooklyn Shannon; and step-great grandson, Stetson Shannon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Clara Marie Dishman; brother, Robert; and sister, Virginia Johnson; and brothers-in-law, George Johnson, Robert Hill, and Floyd Adkins.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Park Cemetery, 621 S. State St.,
Greenfield, IN 46140. Rev. Michael Manning will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Family and friends are welcome to attend the graveside service. Bradley UMC will be furnishing food at the church following the graveside service.
