Charles E. "Chuck" Zahnd, 71, passed away on November 9, 2025, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born on February 28, 1954, in Indianapolis, the son of Ernest and Esther (Crandall) Zahnd.
Chuck is survived by his sister, Patricia A. (Zahnd) Proctor; and multiple nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Paul Zahnd, Joe Zahnd and Stephen Zahnd; and nephews Ryan Zahnd and Eric Zahnd.
In 1973, Chuck graduated from Triton Central High School in Fairland.
Chuck lived most of his life in Shelby County, helping his dad farm and tend a milk herd during high school, later going to work at Chrysler. In the later 70s, he became a master mechanic, working for over 35 years at Tom Wood at Carmel
Chuck enjoyed hunting in fall and winter, and tended the family property in Crawford County, Indiana.
He helped our mother with her garden every year, and grew beautiful produce. His mother sold produce and home-made pies at the Shelby County Farmers market for many years before she passed away. Zahnd Farm Produce was a popular stop at the market.
We, the family, will certainly miss him, but we know today he is rejoicing in heaven with our deceased loved ones.
