Charles Egan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 26, 2012.
Charles E. Egan passed away suddenly Thursday evening, January 26th at Ochsner Hospital. He was 89 years old, and often spoke of his gratitude that he had been able to live life to the fullest. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 61 years, Dorothy, who survives him, and a strong family anchor for his 3 children, Barbara, Jacque, and Doug, and his granddaughter Chloe Post. He was born in Yankton, South Dakota on July 17, 1922, and grew up there and in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a child of the depression and enlisted in the Marine Corps during WWII. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the Marine Corps for the Naval Air Fighter "Bateye" Squadron. After the war, he obtained a degree from the University of South Dakota and began a long and distinguished career up through the ranks to an executive position with Owens-Corning Fiberglas, becoming regional manager in the Southern area. After retirement, he managed his private investments. He lived in Metairie since 1966, and loved everything about the New Orleans area. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, and most recently was a part of a Thursday get together with friends known as "The Lunch Bunch." He was a valued mentor to many past employees, a natural leader with a great sense of humor, and will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 6500 Kawanee Avenue on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Reception to follow the Mass at the family home.
