Charles M. Fiala, age 86, passed away peacefully at Amelia House on April 28, 2024.
He was born January 8, 1938, to the late Emil and Blanch (Rehak) Fiala in Ulysses, NE. Charles grew up in Foreman, ND and graduated from Foreman High School. He then attended a trade school in Lincoln to become a mechanic. Charles moved to Council Bluffs and married Carolyn Rahde and they had three children. He worked as a mechanic for Ford, the city of Council Bluffs, and eventually retired from Greyhound Bus Lines. Charles was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He spent his retirement years in a home on Lake Traverse near Rosholt, SD. Here he married JoAnn Chapin in 1998. He enjoyed fishing, boating and hunting. He was a mechanic by trade and enjoyed fixing almost anything. He returned to Council Bluffs in 2020 to be close to his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by spouse, JoAnn Fiala; siblings, Harvey Fiala, Lucille Brick, and Jerome Fiala.
Charles is survived by his children, Roger Fiala, Tammy Stephens, and Cindy (Bryan) Biederman; brother, Fritz (Dorothy) Fiala; grandchildren, Zac (Ashley) Fiala, Amanda Stephens, Sarah (Jace Galvan) Stephens, John Ross Biederman, Nathaniel Biederman, and Thomas Biederman; great-grandchildren, Kassidy Fiala, Kailyn Fiala, Zac Fiala, and Khloe Fiala; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley, Minnesota on Friday, May 3, 2024. Interment is in Calvary Cemetery in Browns Valley. The family will direct memorials.
