Charles B. Freer, Jr.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Charles B. Freer, Jr, on October 3, 2026, at age 80.

Charles was born on July 3, 1946, in Beacon, New York. He would eventually make his home in Napanoch and marry the love of his life Lea Wilhelm.

Charles spent many years serving as an officer with the New York State Department of Corrections. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication, he retired as a Correctional Lieutenant from Eastern Correctional Facility.

He has been reunited in passing with his dear parents, Mary S. Moreno & Charles B. Freer, Sr; son, William Freer and daughter-in-law, Danielle Kearney.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Lea M. Freer; his son, Michael Grote; his daughter, Carol Kelsey; his grandsons, William “Billy” Freer, Charles Kelsey, and Griffin Kelsey Jr; and his granddaughter, Thyanna Grote.

Services will take place privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charles’ honor can be made to charity of one’s choice.
