Charles Gaber Obituary

Charles William Gaber
Godfrey - Charles William Gaber, age 98, died at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2025 at his home in Godfrey. He was born July 12, 1926 in Jerseyville, the son of the late William and Margaret (Roady) Gaber. Charles served with the U.S. Army during WWII, was a member of the former Cherry Street Baptist Church and retired as a mechanic for Jerseyville Motor Inc. Ford Mercury. He married the former Virginia Cornelius in Godfrey on December 2, 1960. She preceded him in death on September 6, 1991. He later married the former Nadine Chiles in Alton on June 1, 1996. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2001. Surviving is his loving and caring partner for his final 20 years, Peggy Ezell of Godfrey. They had many adventures together. Also surviving are two daughters, Charleen Meiser (George) of Bethalto and Judy Rynders of Godfrey; six grandchildren, Todd Meiser (Brenda), Tom Meiser (Melissa), Stacey Rynders, Craig Rynders, Nathan Rynders (Claire) and Alex Rynders; and 12 great grandchildren; as well as his former wife and mother of his children, Peggy (Stiritz) Kohlbaker of Bertrand, MO. He was preceded in death by a great great granddaughter, Josie McGuire.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12 noon on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Pastor Ed Smith will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Josephine "Josie" McGuire memorial stone fund, c/o, Tory McGuire.
