Charles Robert Godwin of Lenexa passed away on December 25th, 2024 at Lakeview Village Nursing Center. Charles was born on September 4th, 1937 in Oak Grove, Louisiana to Leonard & Elizabeth (Lizzie) Godwin. He grew up in West Monroe, Louisiana in a home he helped his father build.
In the Fall of 1959 Charles met the love of his life, Junetta Rogers, at a Sunday night revival service. They were engaged two weeks later and married on January 24th, 1960 in Butler, Missouri. Charles and Junetta have 3 sons – Jerry, Ron, & Jeff.
Charles career was in banking, but he really loved working with his hands. He was very involved in the actual construction of Nall Avenue Church of the Nazarene when it was formed and built. He also added a large addition to the home he and Junetta shared, and enjoyed helping his sons with the remodels or additions to their homes. He went on many Work & Witness trips with his church helping to build churches all over the world. On those trips, he was so focused on completing the buildings, that his teammates often had to remind him or force him to take water breaks.
Charles was the perfect example of a quiet, reserved, Southern gentleman who loved the Lord and his family. He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Junetta, sons Jerry (Leann), Ron (Kathleen), and Jeff (Kim) all of the area. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and many great grandchildren (two who are on the way), his sister Lori (Dan) McComas, and brother Bill.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions in Charles’ memory be made to Lenexa Central Church of the Nazarene Missions
