Charles “Gus” Troy Allen of Roanoke Rapids went to His heavenly Home to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. He will be missed by all who knew him as Gus, Little Man, Puff, Puff Daddy, Boss Man and PapaDaddy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alice Neal Allen and Wesley Carl Allen; his loving wife of 51 years, Mabel Ellis Allen; and sisters Shirley Medlin, and Betty Council. He is survived by his daughter Linda Gail Allen Warren, and son Troy Lee Allen (Bethanne Allen). He has one grandchild, Hannah Grace Allen, the absolute apple of his eye, who crowned him with his favorite title–PapaDaddy. He is also survived by his siblings, Hubert Allen (Becky Allen), Patsy Johnson, and Donnie Allen (Connie Allen). He also leaves behind a special nephew, Brian Council.

The hot dog king of Roanoke Rapids, Charles and Mabel owned and operated Community Drive-In since 1971. The “cafe” became a home away from home for the Allen family and in turn became a staple in the community for family and friends. The restaurant still holds love, laughter and memories for so many, to this very day.

He attended Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church where he enjoyed the fellowship of its members, becoming a family and drawing closer to the Lord. He was a founding charter member of Davie Fire Department.

You could always find him enjoying bluegrass festivals with his brother or friends. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed the Braves as well as attending Mudcats games. His favorite place to be was watching any sporting events that his granddaughter participated in–football cheer, dance, basketball cheer, or track.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 23, 2026 in the Love-Allen Cemetery located behind Community Drive In with Pastor Tim Bowen officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service and at other times at the home. Freinds may sign the online register by visiting www.hockadayfs.com.
