Charles William Hamback, Sr.

Charles William Hamback, Sr., affectionately known as Charlie, passed peacefully on November 26, 2025, in Harvey, Louisiana, shortly before his 83rd birthday. Born on December 9, 1942, in New Orleans, Charlie lived a rich and fulfilling life filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to his family and community.

Charlie began his career at the Tenneco Refinery before making a significant mark as the owner of Earhart Service Station, formerly Earhart Exxon, in New Orleans, where he dedicated 35 years of service. He earned the respect and trust of countless customers and friends, becoming an esteemed figure in the local community. His quick wit and penchant for humor made him a beloved presence, always ready with a clever comeback or a good-natured joke that could lighten anyone's day.

An avid fisherman, Charlie created some of the most cherished memories at the family fishing camp affectionately named “The Buckethead.” His enthusiasm for fishing was contagious; he often quoted, “Early to fish, early to rise, fish like hell, and make up lies!" These times spent on the water with family, eagerly hoping to “catch some reds,” became the backdrop for the happy moments that define so much of his legacy.

Charlie was a proud graduate of Crescent City Christian High School and attended Southeastern University. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life, as he also served in the Louisiana National Guard out of Jackson Barracks in New Orleans, reflecting his dedication to his country.

His family was Charlie’s proudest accomplishment. He is survived by his beloved children: Charles Hamback Jr. (Bridgette), Faith Hamback Fray (Jimmy), David Hamback (Lynn), and William Hamback (Kim). The joy Charlie experienced from being a proud grandpa to Victoria, C.J., Chloe Hamback, Jack and Alex Fray, James Cocurullo, David Hamback Jr., Jeremy and Taylor (Eden), Makayla and Tyler Hamback, and his ten great-grandchildren was immeasurable. Each one of them brought tremendous joy to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Charlie is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Adine Kravet (Deanie) Hamback; his parents, Inez Clark Hamback and Edward Hamback; and his brothers, Edward Hamback and James Talbert. Their memories live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Charlie’s life during visitation on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Harvey - Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expy, Harvey, LA, beginning at 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 PM. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA.

Charlie Hamback's kind spirit, infectious laughter, and love for his family will forever remain etched in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves a legacy of love that will resonate for generations to come.
