AUGUSTA-- Charles "Chuck" Hinds, 73, of Augusta, passed away very unexpectedly on November 26th.

Born in Winthrop to Palmer and Mary Jane Hinds, Chuck lived a life defined by service, music, and an unconditional love for his family and friends. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Maine at Farmington and his master's degree from the University of Southern Maine. Chuck dedicated over 40 years to the Augusta School District as a beloved guidance counselor, where his thoughtful advice and unwavering support helped countless students navigate their paths in life. Chuck was known for his calm presence and his ability to see the potential in everyone he met.

Outside of his professional life, Chuck was a passionate and talented musician. An avid harmonica player, he first shared his gift as a member of the local band, School Street Band, where his lively performances and love for music were a highlight for all who heard him play. He found joy in bringing people together, whether in a school office or on a stage.

Chuck enjoyed many, many things. Among those things were hunting, fishing, swimming, golfing, coaching baseball, watching baseball, making clam dip, eating clam dip, the beach, cold beer, free beer, old war movies, yard sales, bargains (he could never pass up a good bargain), making music, listening to music, and above all, his friends and family.

Chuck is survived by his college sweetheart and the love of his life, his wife of 48 years, Mary Jane. Chuck is also survived by his son, Scott; daughter, Kim; son-in-law, Kevin; granddaughters, Khloe and Kamryn; brothers, Jeff and Timmy; sister-in-law Doni, and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Rick.

Chuck will be remembered for his unconditional kindness, his wisdom, and the beautiful music he shared with the world. His legacy of guidance and harmony will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 20th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Le Club Calumet, 334 West River Rd., Augusta, ME 04330. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a local music education fund or a youth counseling program in his honor. Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330.
