Charles Hite Obituary

Charles Land Hite, III

April 2, 1991 - June 10, 2024

Charlotte, North Carolina - Charles Land Hite III ("Chad") 33, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 10, 2024. The funeral service will be held at Carmel Baptist Church on Saturday, June 15 at 11:00 AM with a visitation to follow. Chad will be laid to rest at Myers Park Methodist Church in the columbarium.

Chad was born in Charlotte, NC to Land and Laura Anne Hite on April 2, 1991. He went to high school at Covenant Day School where he excelled on the basketball court. Chad went on to complete his freshmen year of college at Gardner Webb University, before transferring to Appalachian State University and graduating in 2013.

Chad was a gentle giant. He was kind, loyal, energetic, and generous. He had an infectious laugh, a servant heart, and he loved people hard. He truly was a friend to all, and he lent a helping hand to anyone in need. Chad battled serious addiction and mental health challenges for many years. He fought extremely difficult battles and, thanks to the Lord's hand over his life, he overcame them. Once healthy, Chad fearlessly shared his testimony to help others, and to point them to Jesus. Chad was authentic and genuine. He was totally unpolished in the most beautiful way.

As proof of the Lord's redemptive nature, Chad was enrolled at Central Piedmont Community College where he was studying addiction counseling. He worked at Charlotte Rescue Mission and had a podcast, "The Rabbit Hole Show," which allowed a space for himself and others to speak through God's hand in everyone's story. The tagline of his podcast read, "We all have a story. We all have struggles. The good news is you're never alone." We rejoice in the ways that Chad's well-lived life impacted others; the hope and strength he imparted will be his legacy.

Chad is survived by his parents, Land and Laura Anne Hite, his sister and future brother-in-law, Laura Beth Hite and John Carrick, his grandmother Julia Hite, and his beloved girlfriend and her son, McKenzi Davis and Clyde, (who lovingly referred to Chad as "My Guy").

Memorial donations may be made to Charlotte Rescue Mission, PO Box 33000, Charlotte, NC 28233.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28204 (704) 641-7606. Online condolences can be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

Coach Hardin (Jonathan) & Family

June 23, 2024

Land & Laura Anne, I am stunned and saddened beyond words. Chad is part of some of the best memories of my life. As a basketball coach, he was the greatest teammate and a quiet scorer. Many games we would look at the scoreboard to see that Chad had the most points with his fluid rebounding skills. Just a few years ago I met Chad for dinner and he shared his story. I was shocked and inspired at the same time. All of these kids that played for me and Coach Rhodes will be forever close to our heart. It was only a few weeks ago that I was going to reach out to him for dinner again. I will be grateful for the time you shared Chad with me and those memories are cherished. I wish I had seen this sooner. God Bless you and your family.

I did not have the honor of knowing Chad. I recently found his podcast and was so moved by his story of addiction, recovery, redemption and grace. I don't question God's timing but I truly believe that his story will reach and help more people because he was taken from this world so young. I know that he is now truly at peace.

To the family and friends who knew and loved Charles: I met him once in person about 4 years ago at the Barn (a Christian men's fellowship). I was invited and brought there by my dear friend Rob Suter. After the meeting Charles asked for my contact info and told me that he'd like to have me on his show (The Rabbit Hole). By the time I returned to Chicago, Charles had reached out to schedule me on his show. At least once a year, since then, he would reach out to me via text just to say hello and check in with me. He always had a word of encouragement. I know God makes no mistakes, but I can't help but question His timing of Charles's death. I thank God for Charles's short life but powerful testimony of the God who heals and saves and lives thru His saints until His perfect will is accomplished in their lives. Be encouraged family and friends. May God strengthen you so that He might live thru you until His perfect will is accomplished in your lives before the great reunion.

Chad was a genuine and inspiring man who transformed his pain and struggles into a platform to inspire hope amongst those who have dealt with similar issues. I had the pleasure to have a brief discussion with him last year about this. May his memory be a blessing to a wonderful family and so many people who will miss him dearly and will one day join him in paradise.
