Charles "Dutch" Holmes, 87, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Nash General Hospital. Charles was born April 30, 1924 in Nash County, NC to the late Oscar Leaman and Lura Ryals Holmes. He served in WWII with the US Army winning the Bronze Star for valor. He was a member of Englewood Baptist Church and retired from the US Postal Service. He is survived by his wife, Mattie G. Holmes of Rocky Mount, NC, Sons: Charles L. Holmes, Jr. (Rebecca) of El Paso, TX and Martin L. Holmes (Janet) of Columbia, SC, Daughter, Peggy Hutson (Luther) of Winston-Salem, NC, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday February 1, 2012 at 11 AM in Pineview Cemetery, with the Rev. Harry Fowler, officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7-9 PM at Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Rd., Rocky Mount. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to: Returning Veterans at Operation Homefront, 8930 Four Winds Drive, Suite 340, San Antonio, TX 78239 Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC.
