Charles James Jaffe

Chuck and I were good friends at Beth Shalom Temple Youth (BESTY) along with Phyllis. Although we weren't that close, we chummed around every now and then. He was the tallest of all my friends. Chuck's sense of humor was awesome. I knew his parents well. I lost touch with him after graduation, but our "roots" in Dorchester were identical. We didn't know each other then, but our parents lived close by! I have been following him recently and was stunned to read of his death. RIP Chuck!

Music and love will keep his memory alive in our hearts, forever after.

I was very sad to here of Jaffe´s passing. I met him many years ago when a mutual friend introduced us at Murph´s open mic. I was about to leave and he said, " You gotta listen to this guy Jaffe... he´s the best (insert explicative) keyboardist in town!"
Over the years I got to love him as a human being and respect him as a player and a singer. He didn´t sing too often but Jaffe had a great bluesy voice. I also had the honor and privilege of him lending his elegant, jazzy piano to one of my songs on my first CD. He showed up even though he was really sick and refused to take more than $20. A real class act and kind soul. The last time I saw him was at the Flipside reunion at the Record Archive. I could tell Parkinson´s was really taking it´s toll on him. Still he was kind and friendly as ever referring to me as his brother. I was glad to hear that soon after he and Martha finally tied the knot. Jaffe was one of Rochester´s coolest and kindest cats and we´re gonna miss him. God speed.

So sorry to hear that "Chucky" (as I knew him) passed away. I was Phyllis' childhood friend since kindergarten & often a visitor to the Jaffe Family home in Dorchester on Browning Ave. & then in Needham on Great Plain Ave. Teddy & Sylvia used to call me "the 5th Jaffe" child! We'd all have dinner & eat soups & roast chicken, that Teddy brought home from Pick-a-Chick. I recall the sunroom at the home in Needham where there was a piano & Chucky playing it so beautifully, & wondering how he learned at such a young age! He was eclectic & interesting even as a young teenager. I send my heartfelt condolences to the family & friends in this difficult time.
