HOUSTON -- Charles William "Bill" Johns, 86, of Houston, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023 surrounded by his loving family at his residence, following a lengthy illness. He was born May 12, 1936 in Troy to the late Dan and Margaret (Yearsley) Johns. He married Coila (Stephenson) Johns December 23, 1954 and she survives.
Other survivors include four children, Chuck (Lora) Johns of West Milton, Geri (Tom) Johnson of East Bernstadt, Kentucky, Daryl (Jayne) Johns of Cincinnati, and Susi Ebersbach of Kettering; four siblings, Mick (Joan) Johns, Peg (Donald) Flinn, Amos (Carol) Johns, and Caroline Langston; also numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy (Richard) Roeth; a brother, Dan Johns; and a son in law, Craig Ebersbach.
Bill was a graduate of Houston High School, Class of 1954. He enjoyed sports, traveling and going camping, and loved antique tractors and buses. Bill enjoyed tinkering in his barn with his buses and tractors, and always had a project he was working on. Most of all, Bill was a people person and never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with a group of folks that gathered to learn and play music together. Family was very important to Bill, and he cherished spending time with each and every one in his family. As Grandpa and Uncle Bill he loved to come up with little fun and entertainment for the nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Bill will truly be missed by all who loved him.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Barhorst officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Houston Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2023 also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio's Hospice of Miami County, 3230 N. County Road 25A, Troy, OH 45373 or to one's preferred hospice.
