Charles Leathery II Obituary
Charles "Chuck" Henry Leathery II passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 27, 2024.
Chuck was born in York, PA, on March 15, 1941, to Charles and Kathleen Leathery. He attended primary and secondary school in York before studying Chemistry at Susquehanna University. After graduation, he worked at Glidden Associates as a Chemical Engineer. Subsequently, he was employed at Western Electric, eventually retiring from Lucent Technologies in 1995 at the age of 54.
Throughout his lifetime, Chuck was incredibly charitable with both his time and monetary contributions. Always an active member of his community, he served as President of Prospectus Associates in Reading, PA; he was a board member at Team Up Mentoring in Monroe, GA; and was recognized as Board Member of the Year at the Boys and Girls Club of North Central Georgia. He was a dedicated contributor to numerous charities including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and First Baptist Church of Monroe, GA.
Chuck was a lifelong athlete, having an illustrious athletic career playing football in both high school and college. Upon retirement, he embarked on many bicycling adventures throughout the United States, including trips from the west coast to the east coast; from the south to the north; and everywhere in between.
Chuck was an avid gardener and gifted landscaper transforming his yards into beautiful terrains. In addition, he enjoyed playing racquetball, frequenting the YMCA, and socializing with his buddies at The Peanut Bar.
Chuck was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Monroe, GA, serving as a Deacon in 2012.
He loved the slow pace of the south and the warm Georgia weather.
Chuck is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Hester and his son, David Leathery. He is survived by the mother of his children, Susan Leathery; his children and their spouses, Kristin Leathery and Rhonda Bagby; Ricci and Kevin Sheridan; and his grandchildren, Samantha and Danielle Sheridan. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jo Ann and Dean Henry; his nieces and their spouses; as well as many cherished friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Monroe, GA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to First Baptist Church of Monroe (www.FBCmonroe.com); St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org); or FISH (www.fishofwalton.org).

Sad to see that Chuck passed. We worked together for a number of years at Bell Labs. Chuck was a hard worker and took awhile to get to know. We got through a lot of tough business times together. He will be missed.

Kris and Ricci I am very sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. The two were my first friends and Sue and Charlie were like 2nd parents to me. I will always treasure the great times our 2 families shared. I hope our dad's are sharing a drink and smiling down on us.
